I'm building a new system. Last night, in my lortab induced haze, I ordered the newest AMD beast of a processor and several new parts.

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor
[-link-]

I've never had the money before to go all out and get the best CPU available. After this, I shouldn't have to upgrade for at least 5 years once I get this built. hehe.

I ordered a nice Gigabyte mobo, 4gb of gskill ripjaw memory, and a WD 500GB HDD. I'll use my pc power and cooling gaming ps and my ATi 4850 from my current rig and I'll put my Vista Ultimate on there too. It should all be in by early next week.

GSKILL Ripjaw

Gigabyte mobo

I used a combo discount and a promotion code to save $25. All that plus the HDD for under $600.

So happy :)

Right on! I hope it's everything you want it to be! It certainly sounds amazing.

G.skill ram is awesome...absol utely love the stuff.

I want to know how you like the new CPU. I know both intel and amd are coming up with 6 core solutions. I'm eager to get your opinion on it's performance that price tag is awesome. =)

I hope it serves you well!

Thanks Air, me too. Looks like it's going to arrive on friday. If all goes right and there's no doa stuff, I should have it roaring along by saturday afternoon. I'm giddy with excitement :)

I agree AL. Gskill ram is pretty sweet. I've been using some old gskill pc3200 for about 5 years and never had a problem with it. I've got it mixed with some Patriot memory too which I also like. But this Ripjaws series I got coming in is supposed to be highgrade gaming performance stuff. Can't wait to see the difference it'll make.

I've been looking at all the performance tests and benchmarks out there on the AMD 1090T and I'm very impressed with it. This is the chart I always check first when new CPU's come out.

It's only got one sample so far of the 1090T, but it shows just how beastly this cpu is. I'll definitely let you know about my experience with it :)

I've never had a Gigabyte board before. It looks impressive, but I don't like their website or manuals. They don't list memory compatibility for their boards. So, I bought memory that fit the specs for the board itself (1.5v) and made sure the memory was AM3 compat. I would have gone Asus, but they charge too much for the feature rich boards. Gigabyte gives you your cake and let's you eat it too, so-to-speak :)

Got in from work around 4:45pm. All the stuff I ordered had arrived a day early!!!!

I ended up having to work on 3 seperate computers while building this one all at the same time. Lol.

I'm installing Vista Ultimate 64-bit right now as I type this. It's booting for the first time going through the completion of the installation.

Things are going pretty good so far. Running at all default settings in bios. I'll unleash the beast when I've got everything installed onto the HDD.

I've got to add SP1 and SP2 and that's going to take awhile longer. Hopefully, I will be testing it for gaming early tomorrow night :)

Chang e of plans. I'm going to get Windows 7 today and work with it. Can't believe it costs so damn much for a full version. No wonder people steal their OS. Edited Fri Apr 30 2010, 11:10AM

Well, the price certainly is. But so far, flawless install. I've been waiting to have a legit OS for a long time. Love it or lump it, I picked up Win 7 Premium. No looking back for me now. And honestly, it feels real good to be able to afford to buy something. The greed of the american upper class has truly forgotten about the little people. But that's another discussion for another topic. For now, YIPPEEE!!!

The beast is alive. I'm going to flash the bios here in a bit.

Newegg sent me the old Rev 1 mobo instead of the latest Rev 2. F'ing bastards. Ah well.
