ive been having some video errors popping up recently that have me a little concerned. i think my video card might be on the way out, but im not quite sure. the symptoms are artifacts, but only really when im watching a video. im running the latest video drivers and ive updated my video codecs. i cant get a screen shot of it, but it looks like flickering red splotches in random spots on my screen. ive manually set the gpu fan to 100% to keep it cool. im thinking i might need to do my video upgrade sooner rather than later. before i do, i want to hear if anyone else has had the same issue. if its as simple as reinstalling windows, i rather do that. but if its hardware related, im gonna buy a new card. |

I'd guess overheating. I put heatsinks on my video cards ram back when I first got this card because it was artifacting a bit after short periods of gamign. That fixed my problems. Dunno what's causing yours though. | ||

I'd rma it, but its only happening with playing video thats strange, sounds like a codec problem or driver problem. check your video card temps and cpu temps, make sure they are ok. I use driver sweeper everytime I change drivers. it can fix issues sometimes since it removes files that don't get removed by the driver's uninstaller. heres the program: [-link-] also I don't know if you have a side fan in your case to blow air on your card, but if your idle/load temps are above normal that can help a a lot, especially if your running 2 cards. its pretty easy to put a side fan in, just make sure you have room on the inside. |

What kind of video codecs are you using? There are soo many out there that I wouldn't be surprised if you got codecs that are causing the problem. Especially if it's only cropping up during video play. Also I know it doesn't make sense but your sound drivers could be the culprit. Shoddy sound drivers will cause a video to slow down and act all wierd while the sound tries to catch up the video. Can't tell you how many times I thought I had a video problem when it was actually audio related. |

im running the klite mega codec pack and have the latest video drivers. im downloading the latest sound drivers right now, though it might not be the problem. last time i installed them was back when bf3 was released. had to switch from server 08 r2 to windows 7, so i got the latest drivers then. | ||

klite has been known to cause bugs... i prefer CCCP(combined community codec pack). | ||

I'd recommend cccp too, never had an issue or something they couldn't play. | ||

I don't like Klite either. Too bloated, and full of codecs only a video editor whose life is video editing would use. (Honestly sometimes having too many options is sometimes detrimental) I use FFDShow, with an AC3filter. Haven't had an issue yet with my videos since then and I was pretty fed up with codecs at the time. I've also used CCCP. But I can't remember my opinion of it. Also get RealTemp it'll show the temp of your video cards. No point in getting more fan noise if you don't need the airflow...(that 's another thing we should consider is airflow) Does your airflow go one way through your pc like this?  Keep us posted. I think another good question to ask would be what temps am i looking to be below? My Cpu is showing around 60deg C, and my gpu is sitting at 31deg C. Both at idle | ||

Your GPU at 31 is near what one of mine is at idle the other is at 60, I attribute airflow constriction to this but it's not enough to scare me. The cards will throttle up the fan speed appropriately and they are both overclocked. I would be happy with your cooler gpu temps. Your CPU however should be cooler, mine is around 33-38 at idle. What kind of cooler setup does it have? If your GPU/CPU ever gets above 90 that's something that would certainly make me want want to increase the fan speed. Has trying a new kind of codec helped with your video artefacts? What kind of temps do you get after playing 2 hours of battlefield3 (having a temp at the 1 hour mark is also helpful to note)?
