I know this is a day late in coming by I keep reflecting on the night I was able to see Robin Williams live here in Austin a few years ago. It was by far the best live stand up show I have ever seen. What made it even more special was that a few months after that show he had heart surgery and once he recovered from that he pick up the tour where it had left off and finished it. I think the last show on that tour was broadcast on HBO. Although he performed almost the exact same content as he did here in Austin, it was a complete letdown because you could tell that he was tired, his timing was off and it just did not have the energy of that show we saw here. I guess what I am trying to get at is that I feel truly blessed to have seen him perform live when he was at his best. I literally left that show with my gut hurting from all the laughter. It was non stop for over ninety minutes and it lived up to or exceeded my expectations when compared to some of his early live albums. He was truly a genius when it came to stand up comedy and to be taken to the heights that he could with an audience and then be slammed to the floor with the best punch lines one could possibly imagine and this went on for 90 minutes straight. I remember the first time I ever saw him on television. Does anyone remember which show he first appeared on? It was Happy Days, and it was after that appearance that he was spun off into Mork and Mindy. So many laughs, more than I can count and I think that other than Popeye there was not a movie that he made that I did not like. If any of you have any reflections on this please post. If you saw him live, share it here. The world lost a genius and I cannot believe he is gone. |
